Data gathered by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), show that all residential electricity customers faced large increases in retail electricity prices during the last year 2014, and this trend is likely to continue.
There are many reasons that led to the increased prices, and the most important one is the fact that many electric utility companies bought power from regional wholesale electricity markets, and these were markets which experienced higher prices at the national level in 2014.
Another reason for the increased prices is related to major updates of the transmission and distribution infrastructure made by some utility companies.
A third reason was related to the new requirements dictated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which say that electric companies must generate a percent of the electricity from renewable energy sources.
A study conducted by Energy Venture Analysis and released in November 2014, say that EPA’s proposed carbon rules and power plant regulations will increase the costs of electricity and natural gas with about $300 million on energy bills for a period of eight years and until the year 2020.
With the current requirements, this amount could mean an increase of 35% on electricity and natural gas bills for the typical U.S. household in the period between 2012 and 2020.
We are in the year of 2015 now, so we have another five years to pay increased prices for energy bills.
Now when we face such periods of increased prices for energy, maybe some of us will understand that using renewables to produce our own clean energy is the best choice that we have.
It is obvious that the utility company will never do anything to help you pay less on energy bills, it will follow its own interest and you will remain behind to pay their managerial failures, their updates for the infrastructure, and their investments in renewable energy dictated by a governmental agency.
Use your brain and produce your own clean energy by installing a renewable energy system like solar or wind at home
You can pay once for the entire system or you can lease the system and pay a lower monthly rate than you pay on your electricity bill.
Be wise and act now, because the more you delay the switch to renewable energy, the more money you will lose by paying the energy produced by others.
