Tesla Model X is the first SUV that receives the 5-Star Crash Rating from NHTSA

2017 Tesla Model X is the safest SUV on the road.

Tesla announces that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), has awarded the Tesla Model X with 5-star safety rating in every category and sub-category.

This way, Tesla Model X becomes the first SUV receiving the 5-star rating from NHTSA.

The tests conducted by NHTSA are showing that Tesla Model X has the lowest injury probability among all SUV’s ever tested.

In addition, among all the cars ever tested by NHTSA, Tesla Model X has the overall probability of injury second only to Tesla Model S.

Tesla Model X can perform so well because compared with the gas-powered SUVs, the Model X has an architecture and a powertrain specifically designed for an all-electric vehicle.

This means that the rigid and compact battery pack powering the vehicle is mounted under the floor of the vehicle, which moves the center of gravity, so low that Tesla Model X becomes the vehicle with the lowest rollover probability of any SUV on the road today.

Because other SUVs on the market have the center of gravity located much higher, they have no chance of meeting the rollover requirement of the NHTSA.

The tests conducted by NHTSA also showed that the structure of the Model X vehicle minimizes the intrusion into the cabin and absorbs as much energy as possible.

The nine subcategories rated by NHTSA have included tests such as frontal impact, side impact and side pole impact, the rollover test, both the driver and passenger side test and others.

After completing all the tests, NHTSA awarded the all-electric SUV from Tesla with the 5-star rating in every category and sub-category, which shows that in the event of a serious crash, Tesla Model X can provide the passengers an overall probability of walking away without any serious injury of 93%.
