Solar power is a very important asset in the global battle to reduce carbon emissions and stop climate change.
Being such an important asset we need to work to find ways of improving it every day.
Solar is a clean source of energy for mankind
Solar energy is a clean energy source and lately has become increasingly important among other clean energy sources even if it is pretty difficult to store and even if requires spots with direct solar exposure to install the panels.
If we want to store the energy produced by the solar panels we can use a solar battery, but if we don’t have a good sunny spot to install the panels there could be a problem.
KaliPAK is a clean generator
To solve this issue, Israeli start-up Kalisaya found a new way of bringing the solar panels with us. He created a solar charger embedded in a suitcase and called KaliPAK, which can be used outside when camping in remote areas or to replace the energy source in case of a power blackout.
Kalisaya co-founder Yaron Gissin explains that this portable charging device that uses solar panels can be installed everywhere we want and has an on/off switch so it can be started when we want and can be connected to any 12 Volt appliance like mini fridges, laptops, cameras or any USB device like cell phones, tablets and so on.
It starts charging right away and your device will come back to life in an instant.
The device comes with a built-in Bluetooth transmitter so can be connected to your phone very easy.
In the future, this portable charging device will use a variety of clean energy sources as the main energy source.
The next on the list is a wind turbine which will do the same work like the solar panel, but using the power of the wind.
KaliPAK 601
KaliPAK 601 is the largest among all three power generators provided by Kalisaya, and this generator can’t be compared with the pocket batteries used to power mobile phones or other small devices.
This is more like a power station in a suitcase that weighs about 14 pounds and comes with a shoulder strap in the box for easy transportation.
On one side you get a storage box for your phone or tablet chargers and your devices, while on the other side, behind a non-removable cover, is a giant lithium-ion battery, 558 Wh (watt-hours).
For comparison, a laptop battery is a mere 45 to 55 Wh.
There is also a dedicated envelope for the included solar panels.
To access all that power is quite easy al least for mobile devices.
You get two 12 volt DC outputs, four USB type A ports, which can handle any phone or tablet available on the market today, with charging rates maxing out at about 12 watts. These are not the fastest charging rates available today, however, they can get the job done.
What you can power with the KaliPAK 601?
You can use the KaliPAK 601 to power a few smartphones, a smartwatch, an iPad Pro (or something similar), an action camera, etc. and after that you have to wait a couple of days to see that the power of the generator drops below the 70% mark.
There is also an app that can be installed on your phone and talks with the generator over Bluetooth, to shows you a lot of useful data about the device.
Kalisaya plans to launch the KaliPAK device in 2015 in retail stores across the U.S. and Europe at a price between 250 to 750 Euros.
